Help Light Up Malahide This Christmas

The Malahide Chamber of Commerce are purchasing new Christmas lights for the town to brighten up the festsive period, but they urgently need volunteers to help them out in getting them up.

This Saturday, 30th October 2010, they need help to look at all the lights currently on the trees to see if they are in working order or need to be replaced.

If you have some time available, and would like to play your part in lighting up Malahide for the approaching festive season, please send an email to lights@malahidechamber.ie

Thank you so much,

Malahide Celebrations for Ladies Football Team

St. Sylvester's G.A.A. Club shall welcome the victorious Dublin Senior Ladies Football Team and the Brendan Martin Cup to Malahide on Sunday, 24th October 2010 for celebrations.

Following their superb victory in the All Ireland Football Final on Sunday, 26th September 2010, St. Sylvester's stars Sinead Aherne and Niamh McEvoy, both from Malahide, shall lead the parade into Malahide and onto St. Sylvesters G.A.A. Club to celebrate their historic victory. They shall be joined by a number of their fellow Dublin Senior Ladies Football Team mates on the night.

The Jackies had a double victory in 2010 with the Junior Team also winning the All Ireland title. St. Sylvester's Sinead Treacy captained this team to victory and she will parade the Aisling McGing Trophy into the village. In true Malahide tradition, a piper will lead the parade into the village from Bridgefield at 6pm arriving at the clubhouse shortly after that.

So bring out your Dublin colours, come along and enjoy the occasion.

Government to Provide €450,000 Towards Malahide Cricket Ground Redevelopment

The second stage in the creation of a 12,000-capacity international standard cricket ground in Malahide got the green light yesterday with confirmation that the government shall provide €450,000 towards the cost of the redevelopment.

Malahide Cricket Club have already relaid the square at their ground at a cost of €70,000, 51% of which came from the club and the balance from Fingal County Council.

The government money is to be used on the development of a new outfield and grass banking that would accommodate the vast majority of the crowd, almost doubling the size of the ground to 17,000 square metres.

The club have been granted council-owned land on the Malahide Castle estate known as the Lady Acre, with the present boundary wall set to be removed to facilitate the ground development.

The club has completed a tender process that has still to be approved by the government before work can commence.

The ground may even be ready in time for Malahide to apply to host next summer’s One-Day International against England.

Cricket Ireland have worked with Malahide on the project and have committed to staging international matches at the ground once it is up and running.
