Malahide Yacht Club Unveils Honour Boards

Malahide Yacht Club has unveiled two Roll of Honour Boards in its clubhouse to mark the achievements of its six Olympians who competed at nine Olympic Games – including David Wilkins’ Silver Medal in 1980 - and nineteen members who won 27 National Championships in its 52-year history.

Successes in major UK championships have also been highlighted and a separate honour board lists the seven winners to date of the Club Person of the Year Award for the ‘Ossie Bachmann Trophy’, instituted in 2003.

The new Roll of Honour Boards were unveiled at a Reception in the clubhouse by the club’s two longest-serving members Kingsley Long and Dermot Hegarty.

“We are immensely proud of these achievements and of the contribution of members of our small club to Irish sailing,” said Club Commodore Martin Clancy. “With these boards, we have recorded for all time these successes and hope it will act as an incentive for our young members to want to join them.”

Malahide Tidy Town Group Committee

On Thursday, 29th April 2010 the Malahide Chamber of Commerce handed over its Tidy Town responsibilities to the new Tidy Town Group (T.T.G.). They are delighted that such a fresh and energetic initiative is now underway to greatly improve Malahide’s performance in the national competition.

The Chamber is also a member of the new T.T.G. Committee and will continue, along with the Grand Hotel, to give every support to the Tidy Town Campaign.

Tidy Town work improves our overall environment and from a commercial point of view, enhances the attractiveness of the town for our customers. If Malahide were to win the competition in the next couple of years, it would be greatly publicise the area.

Please consider how you can help this year. There are already two key things for you to do:

1. Participate in the Hanging Basket program run by T.T.G.
2. Ensure your premises is presented well to the street by cleaning, weeding and painting where necessary.
